The jam band tradition lives on through the Sam Brown Band's eclectic mix of blues, psychedelic jazz and classic rock, featuring original compositions and hits from artists such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pat Metheny, Muddy Waters and Charlie Hunter. Growing up in Austin in the 80s and 90s, guitarist Sam Brown was deeply influenced by the vibrant and varied music scene from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Michale E. Johnson and the Killer Bees. The band's approach to group improvisation is reminiscent of bands like Phish and is inspired by the great piano trios of Ahmad Jamal, Bill Evans, Luke Howard and Esbjorn Svensson. Bassist and producer Bobby McDonald has been a oollaborator since 2000. Drummer and Berklee College of Music graduate, Eric Hahn, rounds out the trio with 50 years of percussion experience.
